Welcome to season 2, episode 11.
This week my guest is Olga Abinader Director of Environmental Review and Land Use Planning at Matrix New World Engineering. Olga is very proud of working for Matrix New World Engineering, as it is a growing women-owned business with offices in NY, NJ, CT, AZ, and Louisiana with project experience throughout the US and the Caribbean.
Olga was born in the Dominican Republic and emigrated with her family to Salem, MA in the early 1990’s. She realized from the beginning that she looked and sounded different. It was difficult and an adjustment in the beginning. However, she took the opportunity of this new world to its full extent and wound up going to Harvard and Brown University.
Olga’s family spoke only Spanish at home in order to keep strong ties with their Caribbean heritage. She assumed a leadership role in the La Union Latina organization established in 1987 at Salem HS to celebrate Latin American culture and traditions. In 2007 Hispanic Business inc. recognized Olga as a Winners Circle Scholar at the Hispanic business annual women of the year awards.
Olga has such an inspiring spirit and a zest to help make change in the world. She asks that if you are leader that you ensure that you are an accessible leader. She feels strongly that everyone has a responsibility to lift and help others rise up.
We also talk about the balance of being a career minded women while being a loving and supportive mom.
