Welcome to the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast, episode 16, 'Are You Snoozing Your Wake Up Calls' with Jason Goldberg?

In this week's episode, I welcome my guest Jason Goldberg. You are in for a real treat with this special episode! A must listen from beginning to end!

Jason is an award winning entrepreneur, TEDx speaker, international "Edutainer", host of The Jason Goldberg is Ruining Podcasting Podcast, author of the #1 International Best-Seller, "Prison Break", and creator of the Playful Prosperity and Competition-Proof Business Immersion programs. Jason is also a former rapper who opened for the Wu-Tang Clan. He has worked with Mindvalley and many other recognizable organizations.

We open this conversation talking about how I followed Jason for about 5 years on social media, as he shared his amazing insight and inspiration through a Facebook page that I followed by chance. Jason just has a way of putting things into perspective and making you think a bit different. I had never thought back then that I would ever be interviewing him.

Jason was in corporate technology, several pounds overweight, and had suicidal ideation earlier in his life, and now he teaches coaches how to help dig a bit deeper when working with their clients, and how to help people truly connect to themselves with a unique look on every situation. He is honest, real, and very funny! He shares his own journey so that others can relate and connect.

In his book Prison Break he has a chapter called, 'The Day the Universe Cut Me off'. He had to slow down and notice that he was playing a direct role in his life experience. He could not blame anyone else. He says, "the first step is taking personal responsibility, but not shaming and blaming yourself". He references swimming laps in a pool of hot lava as an example. Truly a good listen here!

Jason gives such a great example about no one is coming to save or make it easier for you. You can have a support system, but you still have to take personal responsibility. If you are waiting for someone to come knocking on your door to help you and make it all better and easier, you will be waiting a long time!

We learn that we are both essential and irrelevant.  Be an activist around your work as it is essential, but remember it may not continue without you. Enjoy the moment and the sincerity of the work you are doing, but remember that while you are taking it so seriously it can also easily become irrelevant if you are no longer the one taking the lead on it.

Another great perspective that Jason shares, is that we may confuse  the word devastating with uncomfortable. Think about the words you are using when you are speaking to others and yourself. Words truly matter!

The gas gauge on your car goes on when you are low on fuel, right? Would you start yelling at your car or calling it names? What would that do anyway? We are grateful to have this indicator that pops up when we have 20+ miles left in the tank. Jason shares this as a metaphor. Another must listen moment!

Lastly, listen in to Jason's answer to, 'if I knew then what I know now'. It is something to definitely think about when you think that all of your 'accessories' are more important than your life. I am not talking about your necklace, tie, or handbag.

Thank you so much again to Jason for his time and sharing his wonderful inspiration! Go to YouTube for the full video experience of Jason's podcast:
