Show Notes

Welcome to the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast, episode 25 with Emily Joof. Emily comes to us all the way from Sweden and is our first International guest!

Emily Joof is a multicultural mom to two young children who have been her inspiration to write children's books. She moved to Sweden 10 years ago from London. She works as the Global Education Advisor at Save the Children, while at the same time writing and publishing her stories with a focus on inclusion and diversity from an afro-diaspora perspective. Emily is also working on her Ph.D on how children's books can build inclusion in preschools.

Her newest titled book Ballet with Heart was  inspired by my son, who was born with some health complications and yet he was a perfect dancer from day one.

She quickly noticed that because he was brown, people were incredibly prejudiced about his love of ballet.

Emily says that writing picture books is rooted in her need as a mother to create this space for her children and other children to access a more realistic representation of the world we live in. Visit Mbife for more information on all the books that Emily has written.

Take a listen to what Emily shares when she answers the question, if I knew then what I know now.

Next week my guest is Alfa Demmellash. This was truly another incredible conversation!
Alfa is the CEO & Co-founder of Rising Tide Capital, & Co-founder of Future Tide Partners. For more information about Alfa and Rising Tide Capital visit - Rising Tide Capital | A non-profit organization.
